The visit of Master General of Dominican Order in Liepaja
27.03.2006 12:17

On March 20 and 21, Master General of Dominican Order Carlos A. Azpiroz Costa held an official visitation in Liepaja, St. Dominic monastery.

On the first day of visitation, Master General met with Dominican brothers and learnt about their lives in the community. Some common and some individual meetings were held during which he inquired Dominican brothers about their duties and activities in Liepaja, getting acquainted with the local situation.

On the Feast day of St. Joseph, Bishop of Liepaja Vilhelms Lapelis celebrated Hl. Mass in St. Dominic’s Chapel, but Master General gave the homily. In his homily, he explained why St. Dominic wanted to establish the Order, and that one of his main goals was to establish co-working with the bishops as direct successors of the apostles. St. Dominic desired that everybody’s life takes its roots in apostolic life, which is also a dream of the Dominican Order. Then he spoke about St. Joseph as a dreamer, emphasizing that his dreams included Virgin Mary – he wanted to establish a family. Later also Child Jesus became part of his dream. Carlos A. Azpiroz Costa reminded that we all have some dreams – dreams about the future, and it is always important to include other people in our dreams. We must keep in mind that we all are called to follow our dreams, but we all are also called to be part of God’s dream.

After Hl. Mass the meeting with whole Dominican Order’s family took place. On the next morning Master General met with Bishop of Liepaja Vilhelms Lapelis, but in the afternoon he continued his apostolic visitation leaving for Vilnius.
